Ladysmith Outdoor Recreation

Vacation recreation = relaxation. Ladysmith outdoor recreation options put that formula into play for you in all seasons. From hitting the beach, park or links, to biking to bird watching, our seaside community has it all.

Beach

Transfer Beach is known as the jewel of Ladysmith for good reason. In the very heart of town, it’s a great place for families to while away a summer’s day. (Or any other time of the year, for that matter.) Some of your choices include a marine walk or estuary trail, beach volleyball, a children’s spray park and playground, and paddling. When you’re hungry, hit the seasonal Transfer Beach food trucks or pick up lunch from one of Ladysmith's nearby eateries and have a seaside picnic.

Biking

Ladysmith offers both on-road and off-road cycling for novice and experienced riders. Routes in town connect to shopping and services with the least amount of hill climbing. The hills and trails west of Ladysmith provide prime off-road cycling. The Rotary Bicycle Route and the Trans Canada Trail offer cycling routes to the north and south of town.

Bird watching

Ladysmith is a bird watching paradise. Being right on the ocean, we’re home to many species of gulls, sea ducks and shorebirds. Keep an eye open for bald eagles and ospreys too. Our harbour is one of the few B.C. nesting sites for the vulnerable purple martins species, which nest in boxes on the dock pilings at the community marina.

Golf

Imagine year-round golf! It’s the norm here thanks to our mild climate. Ladysmith’s 9-hole course will test your game while surrounding you with spectacular ocean and mountain views. You’ll find other courses within an hour’s drive.

Parks

Ladysmith takes great pride in its more than 110 hectares of parks and open spaces. The toughest part of your family vacation may be choosing among seaside fun, nature experiences, playgrounds and play fields. Here’s a tip to make it easy for you, though: choose a different one each day!
