Ladysmith’s beautiful harbour setting and hillside landscapes offer you more than 26 km of hiking and walking trails with easy access. We’ve got trails for every age and ability level. Our parks and trails guide includes a map.

Estuary Trail

Distance: Approx. 400 m - Time: 10 min. - Rating: Easy
This short walk near the waterfront features stunning views of our marine environment. At low tide you can enjoy a shoreline stroll to Transfer Beach Park and connect to the Marine Walk. You may also see salmon entering Holland Creek in the fall. You can get to the trail from a small parking lot at Roland Road.

Heart Lake Loop

Distance: Approx. 6.4 km - Time: 2 hrs - Rating: Challenging
Spectacular views of the town, Gulf Islands and Mount Baker make this climb worth the effort. It starts with a very steep incline. You can get to it from Davis Road Park at the Holland Creek Trail.

Holland Creek Trail

Distance: Approx. 5.8 km - Time: 3 hrs - Rating: Easy
This trail leads you around both sides of Holland Creek. Highlights include Crystal Falls and the Colliery dams, and salmon spawning during the fall. It’s wheelchair accessible (with some assistance) from the Methuen / 6th Avenue entrance west to the upper Collier dam. You can get onto this trail at Dogwood Drive, 6th Avenue & Methuan (where you’ll see the Kinsmen Shelter and washroom), Davis Road Park or Mackie Road.

Marine Walk

Distance: Approx. 1 km - Time: 25 min. - Rating: Easy
Part of the Trans Canada Trail, this beautiful walk starts at Transfer Beach and ambles through trees to the waterfront. It then passes the community marina and follows an old abandoned railway path towards the Government Wharf.

Rotary Lookout Trail

Distance: Approx. 1.2 km - Time: 10 min. - Rating: Easy
Take your camera! The scenery is astonishing from the moment you get on this trail near the log bridge at the top of the Holland Creek Trail. Look out over Ladysmith, our harbour and the Gulf Islands. On a clear day you can even see Mount Baker.

Stocking Lake Trail

Distance: Approx. 11.8 km - Time: 2 hrs 40 min. - Rating: Challenging
This winding hike begins at Davis Road Park and continues to Stocking Lake. Along the way you’ll be looking out on the Gulf Islands. This trail also intersects with Heart Lake Loop if you want to have an even longer adventure.

Trans Canada Trail

Distance: Approx. 4.6 km - Time: 1 hr
Welcome to one of Canada’s truly great endeavours, stretching from coast to coast. The Ladysmith section begins at the intersection of Chemainus and Davis Roads, and ends at the intersection of Christie and Strathcona Roads.
