Day Trips from Ladysmith

Ladysmith makes a great base of operations for travellers who want to experience other parts of Vancouver Island. Because we’re in the mid Island, you can easily enjoy a day in many other destinations and be back here in time for dinner and bed. (It’s worth it — our accommodations are more affordable.)

North of Ladysmith

Nanaimo

The Harbour City boasts an island marine park, a bungy jump and zipline facility, and plenty of outdoor activities. 25 minutes by car.

Coombs

You’ve heard about the goats on a roof? Well, they’re here at the Old Country Market. Coombs also hosts a summer bluegrass festival. 1 hour by car.

Tofino, Ucluelet

Make an early start and you can get in a day at Long Beach and some whale watching before heading home. 3.5-hours by car.

South of Ladysmith

Chemainus

Home to world-famous murals depicting the community’s forestry heritage, and dinner theatre. You can also catch a ferry to Saltspring Island. 15 minutes by car.

Lake Cowichan

Set on a beautiful lake, this small community bills itself as “Vancouver Island’s best kept secret.” 40 minutes by car.

Cowichan Valley

Thirsting for a wine tour? The Valley is blessed with more than 15 wineries. While you’re touring, swing by Duncan. The “City of Totems” is renowned for its First Nations culture. 25 minutes by car.

Victoria

The capital of B.C. draws visitors from around the world with its British charm and scenic inner harbour. 70 minutes by car.
